Common Hope is an organization of people dedicated to giving help and hope to desperately poor Guatemalans. It empowers them to permanently lift themselves out of poverty, while sustaining their dignity and independence. Common Hope is making a difference by saving and changing lives. One of the primary ways to support Common Hope is through the sponsorship of a Guatemalan child.

Ascension's involvement with Common Hope began in 1997 when 24 families each began sponsoring a child in Guatemala. In 2001, 14 members of Ascension traveled to the Common Hope site in Guatemala for ten days to help in various ways including the building of a house for a poor family. The house was paid for by members of Ascension.

A second mission team from Ascension traveled to Guatemala in October 2003 and a third team went in June 2006.  A fourth trip was in August of 2009.
