Local    Common Hope    Hearts & Hands

Ascension reaches out to our neighbors at The Rivers senior residence in Burnsville. The first Sunday of every other month, various Ascension groups conduct a worship service for The Rivers residents. The services consist of songs, scripture readings, a short homily, and prayers. Periodically, Holy Communion is offered.

Occasionally, various Ascension groups and individuals assist with social activities at The Rivers. Activities include: assisting with BINGO and other games, painting nails, reading, visiting, and other activities. For more information, please contact Joe Fellerer.

The purpose of Meals on Wheels is to deliver hot noon-time meals to elderly or disabled people who are homebound. Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver vital nutrition, but more importantly, volunteers deliver a healthy dose of friendship and social connection.

Ascension provides 2-5 volunteer drivers one day each month.  Each volunteer delivers meals prepared at the Fairview Ridges Hospital to 5 - 10 homebound people in Burnsville, Eagan, Apple Valley, and Savage. If you would like to make a difference in the lives of the homebound, contact Ascension Meals on Wheels coordinator Lorna Pitzer.

The mission of Loaves and Fishes is to provide nutritious meals to the hungry of the Twin Cities metro area in an atmosphere of hospitality at locations where the need is greatest.

Since 1982 on the 1st Thursday of every month, Ascension has fed the hungry at Creekside Community Center in Bloomington. The effort includes purchasing the food, preparing the meal, serving the meal to over 120 guests, and cleanup. 10-12 members of Ascension, including members of the Confirmation class, participate each month. If you would like to help, contact Sharon Edinger.

Trinity First Lutheran School

Trinity First Lutheran School is in the Phillips neighborhood of Minneapolis.  Ascension has helped the school financially with their scholarship program for a number of years.  At Christmas, we put up our "Trinity Tree" with ornaments that have designated school supplies and items from the school's wish list.  These gifts are very appreciated by the students at Trinity First.  Members of Ascension have also donated their time for various projects at the school.
